Abortion

I think people in the UK really need to see what it can be like to try to get an abortion in areas of the USA.

Scary article from Feministing

Plus, remember - you have to pay for this privilege in the US. Many people can't afford to pay, so charitable organisations raise money for women to get abortions.

And then, of course, there is the doctor who performed MEDICALLY NEEDED late-term abortions. He was shot whilst in church by an anti-abortion activist.

Once again, praise the NHS for all you're worth, in the name of whatever deity/secular icon you prefer.

  1. Hi Liz - Just wanted to let you know that there are some women in the UK who cannot get abortions in the UK/on the NHS - women from Northern Ireland, where the 1967 Abortion Act is not upheld despite NI being part of the UK. The same is true of women living in Ireland (Republic of). There's a new organisation in the UK that is a member of the National Network of Abortion Funds (which you link to in your post) called the Abortion Support Network. It raises funds and also provides accomodation in volunteer homes for women travelling from Northern Ireland and Ireland to obtain abortions.

  2. Hi Mara,

thanks for that, it was very remiss of me to leave it out, particularly as it's recently been in the news with the case of the women travelling over from Ireland to get abortions.

I apologise, it was a late night quick-hit post.
